What is Utility-Scale Solar?

Utility-scale solar refers to large solar projects that generate electricity and sell it directly to the grid. These systems are known as “in front of the meter,” as opposed to smaller solar setups that power individual homes or businesses.

Key Characteristics

Unlike smaller, “behind-the-meter” solar systems that supply energy to individual homes or businesses, utility-scale solar is designed to sell energy into the wholesale electricity market. These projects compete with other power generators like coal or natural gas, offering a clean, renewable alternative.

Key Advantages That Set Us Apart

Developing and Sustaining Energy Solutions

At Solarrays Pvt Ltd, we specialize in developing and sustaining advanced energy solutions. Our focus is on creating innovative and efficient systems that ensure long-term sustainability. By leveraging cutting-edge technology, we provide reliable energy solutions that adapt to future needs.

Utility-scale solar operates in two types of markets:

Regulated Markets

Utilities own and control energy generation and distribution, and buy power directly from renewable projects under set terms.

Deregulated Markets

Open competition allows solar projects to sell power into a market governed by organizations like ISOs or RTOs, offering more flexibility and cost savings.

Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs)

Utility-scale solar often relies on Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), which are long-term contracts that ensure a fixed price for energy over 12 to 20 years. Virtual PPAs (VPPAs) are also becoming popular, allowing corporations to financially benefit from solar energy without physically receiving it.

The Future of Utility-Scale Solar

As solar technology advances and costs drop, utility-scale solar is expected to grow rapidly. With over 100,000 MW in development, it is playing a key role in the shift to renewable energy, helping to meet sustainability goals and reduce carbon emissions.
