COMMERCIAL ON-GRID POWER PLANTS
Solarrays’ on-grid systems do not require batteries and depend on the grid for operation. During daylight hours, the solar energy generated powers appliances and sends any excess power back to the grid through a net meter. These systems need approval and a net meter from the Electricity Board (EB). The system is ideal when:
- Reducing electricity bills is a top priority
- EB power provides a stable reference voltage, essential for operation
Working Principle
Day: Solar panels generate electricity during the day. The on-grid inverter synchronizes with the grid’s voltage and frequency and sends the produced power to the load. Any excess power is exported to the grid via a bi-directional net meter and recorded as export.
Night: At night, electricity is drawn entirely from the grid. The amount used is recorded as import on the bi-directional meter. The net bill from the Electricity Board (EB) will be based on Net = Import – Export, and the consumer only pays for the net usage.
The on-grid system functions only when both the grid and solar power are available. In case of power cuts or voltage fluctuations, the system shuts down (per regulations).
